Questions

The things applicants ask most. If yours isn't here, write to the Internship Program Director.

Who can apply?
People aged 18 to 30 who are committed to conservative ideas and want to put them to work in Canadian politics.
Is it paid?
Yes. Training costs nothing, and during the Ottawa-based year interns receive a salary to cover basic living expenses such as room and board. When the programme sends you outside Ottawa, travel and basic expenses are covered directly.
How long is it?
One year, from the beginning of September to the end of August.
Will I be in Ottawa the whole year?
Mostly. The parliamentary calendar is unpredictable, and interns are sometimes asked to take part in training and campaign work in other parts of the country.
What does an intern actually do?
Interns work in the office of a Member of Parliament: constituent correspondence, committee work, research, legislative drafting, speech writing and Question Period preparation. Alongside that, they train in canvassing, membership sales and fundraising, and attend seminars on the ideas and strategy behind conservative politics.
When do applications open?
Applications for the 2026–27 cohort are closed. Applications for the 2027–28 cohort open in December 2026. Get notified and we'll email you the day they open.
What do I need to apply?
Personal contact information, academic transcripts, a resume, a cover letter and references, a brief video introduction, a questionnaire, and essays and writing samples. Files are uploaded with the online application.
When should I apply?
Early. Complete applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so a finished application sent soon after applications open is the strongest kind.
Can I use AI tools to write my essays?
No. All written responses must be your own original thinking and work. AI-generated content and AI writing tools are not permitted for the essays.
